Captain Phillips (2013) Rated PG-13

Captain PhillipsThe true story of Captain Richard Phillips and the 2009 hijacking by Somali pirates of the US-flagged MV Maersk Alabama. Based upon the book A Captain’s Duty: Somali Pirates, Navy SEALS, and Dangerous Days at Sea by Captain Phillips. Starring Tom Hanks, Catherine Keener, Barkhad Abdi

Wow, going into watching this film and knowing that the crew and Maersk company are at odds with Captain Phillips over the safety of the ship during this trip. I wondered how they were going to interpret Captain Phillips in this film due to lawsuit against him and I must say they did a fine job giving him the acknowledgment that there were emails and that he is a hard boss.  Although, they also gave him a hero status as well as him just being a man.  Tom Hanks portrayed all this well.

Captain Phillips starts off slow but gains momentum as the story unfolds. It’s a well-directed and tries to be non biased using the protagonist’s book as a jumping off point. It’s gripping and emotional and perfectly done. One of the best films.
