Back to 1942 (2012) Rated UR

A deadly drought in China’s Henan province takes its toll during China’s war with Japan in 1942. Starring Guoli Zhang, Hanyu Zhang, Wei Fan, Adrien Brody, Tim Robbins.

This compelling story of a forgotten chapter in China’s history is understated in its approach to the horrific events it portrays. The film covers several stories, all excellently acted, without delving too deeply into any of them. The restraint used in depicting the deep, starving hunger of these people makes it all the more affecting. This film is worth a watch.
