 Her Majesty (2001) Rated PG

Thirteen-year-old Elizabeth Wakefield lives in the quaint town of Middleton, New Zealand, and her lifelong dream of meeting Queen Elizabeth looks as if it may come true when the queen schedules a visit. But the youngster’s loyalties (and priorities) are tested when her friend Hira, a Māori tribeswoman, runs afoul of local authorities. It seems her eyesore of a house is smack-dab in the middle of the parade route.

 Mrs. Brown (1997) Rated PG

Grieving widow Queen Victoria withdraws into sadness for years until plainspoken manservant John Brown disrupts her mourning. But as their friendship grows, it results in personal and political ramifications for both. Exquisitely filmed and fueled by sparkling performances, director John Madden’s period drama brilliantly portrays the woman behind an empire and the man who helped her live again.

 The Queen (2006) Rated PG-13

After Princess Diana’s shocking death, Queen Elizabeth II and Tony Blair engage in intimate talks as Britain demands the princess be memorialized in a way beyond standard protocol. This Best Picture nominee goes behind the scenes as the queen and prime minister try to manage Diana’s death on a personal level and deal with the public’s call for the beloved princess’s royal treatment.

The Other Boleyn Girl (2008) Rated PG-13

Director Justin Chadwick’s opulent historical drama stars Natalie Portman as Anne Boleyn and Scarlett Johansson as her sister, Mary — both beautiful, ambitious and vying for the heart of powerful but intemperate King Henry VIII. Though both women are the monarch’s mistresses, only one can become his queen consort — but at what cost? The supporting cast includes Kristin Scott Thomas and Jim Sturgess.

 Lady Jane (1986) Rated PG-13

For nine politically charged days in 1553, protestant martyr Lady Jane Grey rules England against her will, thanks to a conspiracy concocted by a band of men bent on keeping the crown away from the Church of Rome. But when Princess Mary, the daughter of King Henry, assumes the throne, Lady Jane and her husband, Guilford Dudley, are imprisoned and sentenced to die.
