America, America (1963)

Rated NR

Young Stavros Topouzoglou is a Greek minority who are opposed in Turkey. His family sends him to Istanbul where he is to make a life for them but Stavros has bigger plans–America.

This film is based on director Elia Kazan’s uncle.  The beginning of this film made me depressed. The hardships that the Topouzoglou’s had to go through especially Stravos made me sick. As, Stravos strives for his goal and the things he does to meet them makes this film truly inspiring. It’s a wonderful film that honestly tells an immigrants story. This is a story that must be told and was told brilliantly. This is a film not to miss.
