Raintree County (1957)

Raintree CountyRated NR

A Southern belle lures a young pacifist from his high school sweetheart. Then the Civil War breaks out and the belle’s past comes back to haunt them. Starring Montgomery Clift, Elizabeth Taylor, Eva Marie Saint

At first, you may believe that this story is a love story but alas, it is not. It’s a story of culture clashes during the Civil War. It’s a wonderful story written by Millard Kaufman who adapted it from the novel written by Ross Lockridge, Jr. Elizabeth Taylor, the southern belle, does a wonderful portrayal of a woman plagued by mental illness. Montgomery Clift is a man torn between two women. This is one of the best films to watch.
