Blackfish (2013) Rated PG-13

blackfish

A documentary on the captivity of Tilikum, an orca kept at SeaWorld, which was involved in three deaths. Starring Tilikum, John Hargrove, Samantha Berg, James Earl Jones

This film hit me at my depths. I never knew how SeaWorld received their orca’s but I must say it should be outlawed. I know this film is a backlash at SeaWorld, and I would like to defend them but they’ve swept the facts of Tilikum and there practices for orca’s under wraps. I also know that documentary’s can be very one-sided and this one clearly is. What I gathered from this film is that we need to figure out how to study these animals without cause damage to them. And by these animals, I’m not just talking orca’s but every species in zoos and animal parks. I do think that putting an animal in a cage and not giving it enough stimulation is a recipe for disaster. To top that off, with holding food to get them to perform is the cherry. This film is a must see, even with its one-sided story.
