A young man is torn between what his family expects of him and where his heart is leading him. Starring Diego Luna, Zoe Saldana, Channing Tatum, Ron Perlman, Christina Applegate, Ice Cube, Hector Elizondo
This children’s film is based on the Mexican holiday, The Day of the Dead, where they remember the family members who have passed. Frankly, I am surprised at how popular this film is. I admit, I was intrigued by the premise, but after the first several minutes, it began to drag, with long, confusing explanations that obscured the storyline. By half-way, I had lost interest altogether.
The film centers around a love triangle between a young man, his friend, and the woman they both “fall in love” with. By the end of the movie, I couldn’t care less who won the girl. Besides, it’s obvious that the hero gets the girl, so why bother watching. As with most animation these days, this movie is visually stunning. It’s still a pass for me, though.
