A Little Bit of Heaven (2011) Rated PG-13

a-little-bit-of-heavenA young woman has a life-changing visit with her doctor. Starring Kate Hudson, Gael García Bernal, Kathy Bates, Rosemarie DeWitt, Whoopi Goldberg, Treat Williams, Steven Weber, Peter Dinklage.

When I see Kate Hudson’s name on a film, I expect to see a comedic performance. Be forewarned: this is not a comedy.  This film is billed as a comedy that teaches you about life, and there is a touch of wry humor about it.  However, at the end, all you essentially get is the depressing perspective of a young woman facing her imminent demise.

I didn’t question Hudson’s chemistry with Gael García Bernal.  What I did question was how their doctor-patient relationship crossed the line into romance.  The film felt unrealistic to me, with little substance to support such a serious theme.  It is a pass.
