Baz Luhrmann does not disappoint with this telling of The Great Gatsby. Luhrmann loves to implement color in telling stories, and it’s no doubt he uses it to the fullest here. One problem with the film is the pacing of the story. Additionally, the music that Luhrmann uses doesn’t fit the time period and seems out of place. However, the actors are terrific; I enjoyed everyone’s performance. Leonardo DiCaprio brings Gatsby to life, and Tobey Maguire isn’t too bad, even though he doesn’t have many lines and mostly walks around watching everyone’s interactions. The film isn’t the best retelling of The Great Gatsby, but it’s good enough to be worth a watch.
