The Fifth Estate (2013) Rated R

The story of Wikileaks founder, Julian Assange, as Wikileaks exposes deceptions and corruptions of power. Starring Peter Capaldi, David Thewlis, and Anatole Taubman.

Benedict Cumberbatch plays the founder, Julian Assange. I have to say it was an interesting portrayal. Cumberbatch portrays him as a crazy, neurotic man. Wikileaks is a controversial site, and the film brings that to the front, presenting Assange as an evil person. The Fifth Estate is about the media and what it has control over. It is shocking how much is watched and controlled. I didn’t feel that this film is a correct portrayal of the characters or the story, but I did think that it tells how much is out of our hands as consumers of the internet. I wish this had been a better film, but alas it is not, making it not worth a watch.
