The Year of Living Dangerously (1982) Rated PG

A young reporter navigates the political turmoil in Indonesia with the help of a photographer. Starring Linda Hunt, Mel Gibson, and Bembol Roco.

This film takes place in 1965 during the fall of  President Sukarno. It’s a brilliant film; the naive reporter works at getting his story but evidently falls into the conflict. The performances by all bring you into the thrill of the story while knowing it is the most dangerous place to be. Linda Hunt playing the photographer is brilliant and unnerving at the same time. Peter Weir, who directed this film, knows his story, and he knows the power of being understated. It shows in this film. The music is the catalyst as it provides restraint while bringing us to the brink of anxiousness. This film is worth a watch.
