Houdini and Doyle (FOX) Rated TV-14

This miniseries follows the friendship between Harry Houdini and Arthur Conan Doyle while helping the Scotland Yard with some unsolved and inexplicable crimes. Starring Michael Weston, Stephen Mangan, and Rebecca Liddiard.

This show is loosely based on the friendship of Houdini and Doyle, and it shows in the historical inaccuracies. It is brilliantly written and showcases the friendship, and the actors do well in their characters. Houdini is the skeptic to the fakery of mediums, while Doyle believes in the supernatural. This is where the show tries to balance the two characters as they solve crimes. I thought the music of the show was problematic; they used modern music to help the story, but it’s disruptive to the historical time frame. The music is out of place. The show, while written well, is also written in more of a modern language. It has a hard time finding its focus between being historical and its modern take. The show, while interesting, isn’t the best and is not worth a watch.
