The Last Duel (2021) Rated R

King Charles VI charges a knight and his squire to a duel to settle their dispute. Starring Matt Damon, Adam Driver, and Jodie Comer.

Basically, this film revolves around a tragic rape scene. The story is told by showing us three versions of the rape. It’s an interesting story telling, but it showcases the men all being pigs. There are a number of scenes of female nudity. These scenes do not enhance the storytelling, other than the fact that it still points to men being sexually immoral. After viewing the three different version of the same event, I was waiting for the Hollywood punchline. It didn’t happen, surprisingly. I was half pleased by this and the other half wanted the punchline, feeling that it would have made the film much more interesting. Alas, the ending left me feeling more depressed about the female lead. It doesn’t help that Damon’s and Ben Affleck’s portrayal of their characters didn’t feel real to me. I didn’t care for or sympathize with them; in fact, I hated both from the start. This film left a bad taste in my mouth. It’s not worth a watch.
