Christian Films

Here’s my deal with Christian films. Don’t get me wrong I love these films. I’m thankful we have clean enjoyable films out there. But…and this is a big but…Christian films seem to latch onto a message. A message that they prefer to tell then give a good story. Now, I know I’m not the only one out there that feels this way. I would like to see them work harder at making a high-quality film and give entertainment then a good message.  I know it can be done and we are all called to spread the Word. What better way to spread the Word then though a good film. So please stop making the focal point of your film be a message and  just make a movie.  Let God speak though that. I think you’ll be amazing at the outcome.

Here’s a list of films that I have enjoyed.

Star of Bethlehem (2007)

Rated NR

Delve into an astronomical mystery in this documentary about the historical star that believers claim prophesied the birth of Jesus. Could the star have been a comet or an unknown planet? Find out whether science can explain the biblical phenomenon. Examining the age-old story from the Gospel of Matthew, the film explores the possibilities and speculations of myth versus miracle.

House (2008)

Rated R – yes, it’s rated R.

Trying to recover from the nearly marriage-breaking stress after the death of their child, Jack and Stephanie  spontaneously take off on a road trip. But when their car breaks down in a remote area, they find themselves in a horrific nightmare. Seeking shelter in a house, they soon realize that more danger lurks inside than outside in this spine-chiller based on Ted Dekker and Frank Peretti’s best-seller.

One Night with the King (2006)

Rated PG

This amazing biblical drama chronicles the brave and historic legend of Hadassah, a Jewish orphan with exceptional beauty who rises to become Queen Esther of Persia and saves Persian Jews from genocide. By revealing her heritage to the king, Esther thwarts the evil prime minister’s plan to annihilate all Jews in the Persian Empire. The annual festival of Purim is inspired by her heroism.

The Last Sin Eater (2007)

Rated PG-13

Cadi Forbes  lives in an 1850s Appalachian community proud of its faith and its ability to keep secrets close to home. So in the wake of her little sister’s tragic death, Cadi seeks out the only person she believes can help her — the Sin Eater. This is a screen adaptation of Francine Rivers’s novel.

Amazing Grace (2006)

Rated PG

Based on real events, this historical drama tells the story of William Wilberforce, an 18th-century English politician who fought for the abolition of slavery. Despite staunch opposition, Wilberforce waged an aggressive campaign using boycotts, petitions and slogans to bring the British slave trade to a decisive end.
