This film brings out the reality of war with the humanity of war. There are a number of stories about the Christmas of ’44 on the front. I’m not sure if this was based on a true story. It’s a great story but a sad one. Although, it is based on a semi-autobiographical book with the same title that’s written by William Wharton. This movie is often on the antiwar film lists but I don’t think that it is really an antiwar film. I think it is a film that depicts both the reality and humanity of war and all wars have that.
