The Princess and the Frog (2009) Rated G

Disney retells the fairy tale of the Princess and Frog. A girl has a dream  of opening up her own restaurant until she meets a young prince. Starring Anika Noni Rose, Bruno Campos, Keith David, Oprah Winfrey, Terrence Howard, John Goodman, Emeril Lagasse

I love Disney movies and usually I can over look the mistakes that are in them. This one has a couple that annoyed me throughout the film. One the film seems to take place at the start of the nineteenth century and the height of segregation. It also takes place in New Orléans were segregation is prevalent. I dislike that they swept the history under the rug. It was basically ignored.

The other issue I had with it, was the voodoo. Magic is one thing but voodoo is another issue altogether. There is good voodoo and bad voodoo. I wouldn’t want my kids watching something that glorifies bad voodoo or even voodoo at all. It’s real, it’s not magic. It’s playing with forces I wouldn’t want to play with and I wouldn’t want my kids playing with it without knowing what it is. So this film is questionable to add to my Disney collection.
