A young surgeon with autism is hired into a pediatric surgical unit. Starring Tamlyn Tomita, Freddie Highmore, Nicholas Gonzalez, Antonia Thomas, Chuku Modu, Beau Garrett, Hill Harper, Richard Schiff.
Highmore is one of the most promising young actors out there, and in this drama he gets to show off his acting chops. I appreciate how this show brings more understanding to autism. However, it needs to do a better job of walking the line between Highmore’s character being an annoyance and serving as the heart of the program. What is intriguing is watching how his character struggles to react in normal situations, due to his autism. Sure, he doesn’t have the best bedside manner, but all medical shows bend reality to serve their purposes- look at House or Grey’s Anatomy. I think this show has a lot of leeway to make itself great. It is worth a watch.
