Fruitvale Station (2013) Rated R

Based on the true story of Oscar Grant III’s last day before he was fatality shot at the Fruitvale Station in 2008. Starring Michael B. Jordan, Melonie Diaz, and Octavia Spencer.

I have mixed feelings about this film. At times, I thought the filmmakers were trying to have the audience sympathize with the character – especially with the dog scene. There is no story here; we just watch Grant going about his day. This is a tragic story, and the death is an accident. The film is biased as it paints Grant in a good light. It does not include some of his convictions, like illegal possession of a handgun. In this situation, there were mistakes on both sides. The movie is well done but seems one-sided and treats the character as someone who has does no wrong. This film is not worth a watch.
