My Dinner with Hervé (2018) Rated TV-MA

An interview between a journalist and Hervé Villechaize, an actor immortalized in the 1977 TV series, Fantasy Island and who committed suicide days after the interview. Starring Peter Dinklage, Jamie Dornan, and Frida Munting.

This is an interesting story. While I love the concept, I would’ve liked the story if it had been more concise. However, I understand that the interview in itself was chaotic, and the writer was trying to make the film as chaotic as the interview was. As such, it’s difficult for the viewer to see the full story of who Hervé was. Dinklage was brilliant as Hervé, and Dornan as Danny Tate rather than Sacha Gervasi, who was the original interviewer, tried to be the straight man to the chaotic actor. The film needs more clarity in the storyline, making it not worth the watch.
