This series chronicles the life of Lizzie Borden after her trial for the murder of her parents. Starring Christina Ricci, Clea Duvall, Cole Hauser, Dylan Taylor
In this post-trial look at Lizzie Borden’s life, of which very little has been recorded, Chronicles proceeds in much the same way as the TV movie Lizzie Borden Took an Ax: both take the basic outline of her life and weave an unfounded, theatrical tale to support it. Although neither production is based in truth, I have to credit Chronicles for inventing an interesting twist for Borden. In reality, after the trial, she lived a rather uneventful existence, but the writers have taken what little information is available to create a sinister spin. Of course, Christina Ricci pulls off sinister masterfully, and the noteworthy musical score adds to the suspense, even if it doesn’t necessarily correspond with the time period. Definitely a step up from Lizzie Borden Took an Axe, I say give it a watch, and let me know what you think.
