Top Films of 2012

Here are my top five films of this year. I would like to clarify that these are films I watched for the first time this year, they aren’t necessary released this year.

The Horse Soldiers (1959) Rated NR

Academy Award-winning screen legend John Wayne stars as Union cavalry Col. John Marlowe in acclaimed director John Ford’s dramatic interpretation of real-life Civil War events. Marlowe and his military cohort Maj. Hank Kendall are ordered behind Confederate lines to sabotage enemy war efforts. The action is nonstop as blazing gunfire, battlefield romance and disagreement in the ranks pepper the soldiers’ mission.

A Cat in Paris (2010) Rated PG

In this Oscar-nominated animated feature, little Zoe discovers that her cat, Dino, moonlights as the companion to Nico, a burglar with a heart of gold. Soon Zoe is drawn into a thriller filled with gangsters, jewels and the rooftops of Paris.

The Cabin in the Woods (2011) Rated R

In this twisted thriller from Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard, five friends arrive at a secluded cabin with clear instructions for their anticipated mountain getaway. But when the rigid rules are broken, punishment is swift — and everyone will pay.

All Mine To Give (1957) Rated NR

Cameron Mitchell, Glynis Johns and Rex Thompson lead an all-star cast in this heartfelt drama about six pioneer children whose parents have died, forcing the eldest to find homes for his younger siblings on Christmas. Despite the children’s tragic predicament, the Scottish immigrant family’s powerful bond inspires them to stick together in the true spirit of the season.

And one tv series that I just had to add to this list.

Being Human (BBC) (2009) Rated TV-14

Trying to fit into modern society is a vexing — and often impossible — challenge for a genius werewolf, a flighty ghost and an urbane vampire who share a household in this engaging supernatural drama.

I just finished watching the fourth season and I have to say the writers and producers are turning this series on its head. I enjoyed the first three seasons of the show but when I tuned into the fourth season, I was totally taken aback. They flipped the show completely on its head. I’m going to watch the fifth season, I’m curious to see where they are going to go, or if it’s going to be season one all over again.

All synopsis from Netflix.
