Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel (2009) Rated PG

alvin and the chipmunks the squakquelThe Chipmunks are back and they now battle with a new singing group, The Chipettes. Starring Zachary Levi, David Cross, Jason Lee, Justin Long,  Matthew Gray Gubler, Jesse McCartney, Amy Poehler, Anna Faris, Christina Applegate, Wendie Malick

I guess if you are going to a film with The Chipmunks this is best story you can come up with. I mean, it’s a trio of chipmunks that not only talk but sing. And on top of that, they  sing well enough that they are top performers, go figure. The Chipmunks have never bothered me, since, I know they do to other people. It’s a cute funny, comedy but again it’s chipmunks, that talk and sing. They are CGI characters working with live action actors. I’m not sure if I would enjoy this film if the filmmakers filmed it all live action or if they filmed it in animation. I don’t know which would be better or if this is the best that can be done doing a chipmunks movie. All I can say is it’s over the top in every way possible and if the kiddies love it then I do too.

One Response to Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel (2009) Rated PG

  1. The real problem with Alvin and the Chipmunks is that is never tries to be funny. After all, the movie is about three high-pitched chipmunks who can talk and sing. Why not capitalize on that and have some awkward interactions with humans? Why not keep the film focused on Dave getting the chipmunks to behave? Why not let the chipmunks have an adventure, or deal with some kind of bigger situation? Alvin and the Chipmunks goes the standard, dull and safest route, never trying to do anything particularly fun or memorable.
