12 Years A Slave (2013) Rated R

12 years a slaveIn 1841, a free man in the north gets sold into slavery in the southern United States. Based on the true story of Solomon Northup and his book 12 Years A Slave. Starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Dwight Henry, Dickie Gravois, Quvenzhané Wallis

Beautifully told story of Solomon Northup, who was born free but was kidnapped and sold into slavery. Lupita Nyong’o’s  portrayal of a young slave woman is truly haunting. In fact the film is truly overwhelming. I still can’t get over the fact that humans can do that to other humans. Although, this is nothing new the holocaust, and Egyptian and the Jews all had slavery. I thought the filmmakers did an excellent job in representing the white side of the story. How the slave owners struggled themselves with what is right and wrong and how others just believed it’s the law which makes it right. One thing people should understand if it’s law doesn’t make it right. Beautiful film. Loved it and it was worth the  awards.
