Having no expectation other than the good reviews I read about this film, I expected it to be about a Martian who attacks his crew and the Earth. Not exactly. Instead, this film plays like a true story. At times, the pacing seemed long, but it was necessary to reflect the length of time Watney endured his time on Mars. Really, the only flaw I found with its authenticity was the lack of family involvement in the story. From what I understand about NASA, the families are directly involved with NASA when the astronauts are sent into space. However, this film did not reflect that; there was no mention of Watney’s family at all. Even so, it doesn’t detract from the great story line or the anticipation about whether or not Watney will be saved. This film is worth a watch.
