Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors (2015) Rated TV-G

Dolly Parton's Coat of Many ColorsBased on Dolly Parton’s true story of her coat of many colors. It’s a story of faith, love and family. Starring Alyvia Alyn Lind, Jennifer Nettles, Ricky Schroder, Gerald McRaney.

Wow, well done! I thought this film was going to be a sweet retelling of Dolly’s life and her struggles growing up, but it was much more than that.  With heart-rending depth and truth, they present a life of hardship and faith that had me in tears more than once throughout the movie.

What floored me was the honest representation of her family’s faith in the midst of their struggles.   I was also surprised and impressed by singer Jennifer Nettles in her first acting appearance.  Her strong and stern portrayal compared to the bubbly personality she usually has was convincing and well-done.  Alyvia Alyn Lind was perfect as the precocious, young Dolly Parton, and Ricky Schroder and Gerald McRaney added maturity and experience to their characters.  I highly recommend this film as worth a watch.
