A bomber pilot turned minister rejoins the service during the Korean War. Based on the true story of Colonel Dean E. Hess and his book, Battle Hymn, 1956 autobiography. Starring Rock Hudson, Anna Kashfi, Dan Duryea, Alan Hale Jr.
This film is unlike any I have seen. Quiet and understated, it deals with the remorse the minister/pilot (played by Hudson) experiences after the accidental bombing of an orphanage during WWII and his decision to rejoin for the Korean War. The film deviates from the book slightly, mostly in names and dates, but none of it changes the emotional impact of the story. Hudson is well cast in his role as he struggles with his inner demons. This film is worth a watch.
