Hyde Park on the Hudson (2012) Rated R

A weekend at Hyde Park in 1939 where President Franklin Roosevelt, his wife Eleanor, his mistress Margaret “Daisy” Suckley, and the King and Queen of England all come for picnic. Starring Bill Murray, Laura Linney, Samuel West.

On this particular weekend, this interesting assortment of individuals meet to talk about their alliance in fighting against the Fuhrer in Germany. This film doesn’t focus on international events of the time, though. Rather, it focuses on the President’s affair with his cousin and the King and Queen’s questioning of such strange American customs. it is apparent that Eleanor has decided to stay in a loveless marriage, albeit without any tension. There appeared to be little affection between the President and Daisy, which begged the question of why they were together. Then, you have the King and Queen, who are increasingly annoyed with American social norms. None of it was interesting to watch, apart from Murray’s role as FDR. This film is a pass.
