War and Peace (2016) Rated TV-14

War and PeaceThe Russian conflict with Napoleon is heating up, and six families’ lives are changed forever. Based on the novel by Leo Tolstoy. Starring Paul Dano, James Norton, Lily James, Aneurin Barnard, Jessie Buckley, Olivia Ross.

This updated version of Tolstoy’s book is visually stunning; the cinematography is absolutely beautiful and the costumes are perfection.  Dano is masterful as Pierre, the bumbling illegitimate heir of his father’s inheritance who struggles with his beliefs.  All the actors are wonderful.  The film itself moves slowly, but, if you’ve ever read War and Peace, you know that there are so many aspects to the story to convey, and this film does an excellent job of pulling out just the right amount for a spectacular effect.  This film is worth a watch.
