The Rebound (2009) Rated R

A single mom is captivated by a younger, sexy new neighbor. Starring  Catherine Zeta-Jones, Justin Bartha, Andrew Cherry.

This is a mediocre romance- fun and cute at times, but easily forgettable. The chemistry is there between the actors, and the problems they face as a couple dig a little deeper than those of the typical miscommunications of other light romantic comedies, but there isn’t anything about the story that one can really relate to. Their main issue is the age difference, and it seemed like they might be able to overcome that hurdle. The ending was realistic but not what I had hoped for or expected. The film just didn’t give enough credibility to the relationship to let us believe they could make it. For its lack of engagement and substance, this film is a pass.
