The Man with the Golden Arm (1955) Rated TV-14

A junkie works with drug addiction while his wife and card sharks put him down. Starring Frank Sinatra, Eleanor Parker, and Kim Novak.

What makes this film is Sinatra, who plays the junkie battling his demons while the people around keep asking for more than he can give. The film is brilliantly written – not only the story of the junkie but also the subplots that surround him. The only downfall of the film is that the junkie quits cold turkey, which doesn’t seem plausible. Although, I’m amazed that in 1955 that they made a film involving drug addictions and the outlining problems that go with it. It’s a film that is a  little ahead of its time but worth the watch anyway.
