The Frozen Ground (2013) Rated TV-MA

A state trooper partners with a woman who escapes from the serial killer, Robert Hansen. Based on actual events. Starring Nicolas Cage, Vanessa Hudgens, and John Cusack.

This film is based on a true story. It’s not a documentary, but it is a good thriller. However, the script leaves much to be desired. The film doesn’t dive into the serial killer’s reasons or the relationships he has. It mostly follows the trooper and his life as he tries to help the victim. What frustrated me the most was the wife’s character. I hope that wasn’t based on the real wife, and if it is, it’s obvious we aren’t getting the whole story. The wife seemed wishy-washy and uncaring about his case one minute; then, in the next scene, she’s helping him. She was the most confusing character. That didn’t detract from the story; it’s still worth a watch.
