Gretel & Hansel (2020) Rated PG-13

A girl and her brother head into the woods to find food and work, but they stumble upon an evil that has consequences. Starring Sophia Lillis, Samuel Leakey, and Alice Krige.

This film a different take on the fairytale of Hansel and Gretel. It brings the original story by the Brothers Grimm to life. The story of Hansel and Gretel was more to scare children than tell a cute story. It was to give children a warning that there was evil in the world. This film delivers that message with a more fantastical point of view. We have a couple of children who don’t have the best childhood but come upon a house in the woods that has a secret, and it’s the same secret the sister hides. What I liked about this film is that the sister does not want to turn to evil – she wants to fight it. That, to me, makes the film interesting and a fun watch, but it isn’t a film that is spectacular in any way. Even though it’s interesting, it’s not worth a watch.
