Next of Kin (1989) Rated R

A Chicago cop sets out to find his brother’s killer, and unbeknownst to him, another brother is also setting out to find the killer. Starring Patrick Swayze, Liam Neeson, and Adam Baldwin.

This film is as cliché as possible. We have the hicks from Appalachian country and the Chicago mafia feuding, and what sparks this off is the death of one of the Appalachian brothers. This film takes something that seems unrealistic and puts it out as a possibility. It’s not a bad film, but it has the usual action and story. It also has a “before they were stars” cast list. The actors are fun to watch as the story pulls you in. However, the film doesn’t have anything to distinguish it from others of the genre, which makes this film not worth a watch.
