In 1970s Los Angeles, a pair of private investigators search for a missing girl and investigate the death of a porn star. Starring Russell Crowe, Ryan Gosling, and Angourie Rice.
This film has a lot going for it. It’s a very stylized film in making it a period piece. The film has humor but lacks morality. I know – shocking. It mixes film noir with buddy comedy and, at times, it works – and at others, not so much. Gosling is great bringing the humor throughout the film, which helps make it passable. What I struggled the most with is the lack of moral standing. I guess it’s no surprise to say that the film has a lot of topless nudity, of course, due to the investigation with the porn star. Most of the time, I felt that the nudity outweighed everything in the film, and I’m no prude. This film wasn’t at all what I expected, and I don’t expect much. It’s not worth a watch.
