A widow brings together a variety of gunmen in order to avenge her husband’s death. Starring Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, and Ethan Hawke.
This film is a remake of the 1960 film and the 1954 film Seven Samurai. While both predecessors are brilliant in their own right, this one doesn’t hold a candle to the other two. The action has its moments to thrill. The cinematography was brilliant in showcasing the west and the frontier. All the action and drama that come from a shootout are enhanced with James Horner’s musical backdrop. The performances weren’t bad; Pratt brought the humor and Washington, who seemed out of place, wasn’t bad as the bounty hunter. What hurt the most was that the characters just didn’t have the depth to make you really care about them or the town they were trying to save, and there is little to no suspense to the story. Overall, this film doesn’t bring anything new except the political correctness that films like to add to history. This film is not worth a watch.
