Star Trek Beyond (2016) Rated PG-13

The crew of the USS Enterprise reaches uncharted space and encounters a new enemy that could change history. Starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, and Karl Urban.

This film does show the progression of what makes a blockbuster. It doesn’t have the classic storytelling that the other Star Trek installments had. The film revolves around special effects and CGI while the script is put on the back burner. Thus, the script has a number of plot holes due to the fact they look more at the explosions than the story between characters. The Star Trek franchise revolves around the characters and their depth, but it’s lost in this film. While it’s a fun watch, it still doesn’t hold a candle to the original. Again, I struggle with the changes they made to characters that were created 40 years ago. While the film has its negatives, it’s still a good watch and it’s worth it.
