Curse of the Starving Class (1994) Rated R

The story of a poor farming family with an alcoholic father and a mother who is trying to save the family. Starring James Woods, Kathy Bates, and Randy Quaid.

This film moves so slowly, and I think it’s partly due to the fact that it was originally a play. It did not translate well to the big screen. The film doesn’t have a climax in the story nor does it end on a happy note. However, there are top-notch performances by the main characters. While the film is a character study and has great characters with depth, it moves too slowly. It’s brilliantly written, but there are moments that didn’t need to be there. I would have preferred the play over the movie, making this film not worth the watch.
