The Singing Detective (2003) Rated R

A writer who’s suffering from a skin disease experiences hallucinations of storylines while in the hospital. Starring Robert Downey Jr., Robin Wright, and Mel Gibson.

This is one of those films that doesn’t make much sense. While the concept is interesting, the end product doesn’t come together well. The concept is a dark noir film, which is brilliantly done; and while the acting wasn’t bad, the singing wasn’t my cup of tea. The downfall of the film is the story and the writing. The characters are not developed. We have characters that we couldn’t care less about. It helps to know the synopsis of the film before watching it, but it doesn’t help if you can’t understand the film. This film is not worth the watch.
