This film is based on the Iranian Embassy siege of 1980, where there was a standoff between Iranian Arabs and SAS soldiers. Starring Jamie Bell, Mark Strong, and Abbie Cornish.
This film provides a wonderful telling of the events that happened in 1980. While the play by play of what is happening is great, it doesn’t give us any historical references. This hostage event took place in London between two Middle Eastern countries that had nothing to do with the Western world, or so it seems. Thus, without historical references, there is a disconnect for viewers that don’t know anything about it. Plus, we know very little about each character. The film is also light on action, which is fine when telling a play-by-play of an event, but it’s also a hostage situation so there are intense moments. This film is not worth the watch.
