On New Year’s Eve, a coachman forces a drunken man to look at his life. Starring Victor Sjöström, Hilda Borgström, and Tore Svennberg.
This film is known for the double exposure of film that Sjöström used to make the ghostly figures on screen. The film’s exposure is what makes it interesting. While the story itself is compelling, the method of storytelling dates the film. It tells the story as if explaining things to a child, which is rather annoying. It would be just as pleasant to let the story unfold. The pacing of the film is typical of the time, but again, it’s slow for today’s standards. However, this is still a film worth a watch.
