One of my favorite Jimmy Stewart films. This film was made in 1940 before the U.S. entered WWII and it is a marvelous portrayal of what life was like for a family living on the border of Germany. It starts on the night that Hitler becomes chancellor and we watch as the family gets torn apart by the “new” Germany. I am amazed by this film; I’m amazed that it took place before the U.S. entered the war and I’m amazed that it portrays events that we weren’t fully aware was happening at that time.
