A Summer in Genoa (2008)

Rated R

This film starts with a tragic car accident that kills the wife and mother of a university family. To help the family move on, the father takes his two daughters to Italy for the summer. During the summer the teenage daughter explores her sexuality and the younger sister can’t seem to shake her mother’s death. It’s a beautifully dark film about love, lost and forgiveness as the family deals together and independently on their grief. I loved this film. I thought it was beautifully shot and the story was wonderfully told. There was one problem I had and that was the anticlimactic ending, although, it is what it is…life goes on.
