Grand Illusion (1937)

Rated NR

Two French Soldiers captured by the Germans during World War I. They overcome their differences to try to escape the Prison Camp. Starring Jean Gabin, Dita Parlo, Pierre Fresnay, Erich von Stroheim, Julien Carette

A little known fact: During the World War II the film was seized by the Nazi’s and thought to be destroyed but was found later intact in Berlin. If you watch this film you’ll realize with the ending of the film why this is so amazing. This is also the first foreign film ever to be nominated in the Academy’s Best Picture category.

Back to the film; this is a powerful film all the way though the movie. It gives us the humanity side of a war where everyone is equal. With the script, casting and even the cinematography this film is a grand movie to see.
