Lee Daniels’ The Butler (2013) Rated PG-13

leedaniels the butlerBased on a true story of a butler serving eight presidents in the White House. Starring Forest Whitaker, David Banner, Michael Rainey Jr., Mariah Carey, Alex Pettyfer, Vanessa Redgrave, Oprah Winfrey, David Oyelowo, Cuba Gooding Jr., Terrence Howard, Lenny Kravitz, Robin Williams, John Cusack, Jesse Williams, James Marsden, Minka Kelly, Liev Schreiber, Alan Rickman, Jane Fonda

I’m not going to say this is a poorly done film, oh wait I am. I was sorely disappointed in this film. Since the filmmakers toted this as a film based on a true story. I was expecting this to be the true story of this butler and it’s not. It’s a film of a butler whose life is told just to tell the story of the civil rights movement. Since the real butler didn’t have two sons or grow up on a cotton farm or he never saw his father killed. The butler never had a son in the black panther. The film wouldn’t have been as interesting but I don’t know anyone that had this interested life as the butler in the film. To me this ruins the film. I really don’t appreciate films that take a story and turn it into a story that’s false to tell a story that the filmmakers prefer to tell. It makes it seems very political or a propaganda film. Not a historical film or true story. This is a pass for me.
