A documentary of the history of film from 1886 to present day. Starring Mark Cousins, Juan Diego Botto
Mark Cousins, who is a film critic in the UK, both directed and narrated this film. His narration can be a bit annoying but after a while I got used to it and couldn’t imagine someone else narrating it. This film list and a great history of film, is of course, Cousins’ preferences but it does cover the film history in detail. He used the book he wrote back in 2004, The Story of Film: A worldwide history as his jumping off point. In his eight part series of the documentary we travel to every area of the globe learning each country’s history of film and learn more about where it all comes from. I thoroughly enjoyed this ride and learning more about the films I love and discovered new films to watch.
