The Muppets (2011) PG

The-MuppetsA life-long Muppets fan and his brother must get the old Muppets gang back together for one last show to save their dilapidated studio from a nasty oil tycoon.  Starring Jason Segel, Amy Adams, Chris Cooper, Rashida Jones.

Our family recently watched this movie for the first time.  My children, ages 4-12, were essentially unfamiliar with the Muppets, but they fell in love with this movie.  My oldest boy keeps saying that he hopes the Muppets will be popular again now:)

As a child, I never cared much for the Muppets.  Miss Piggy annoyed me, Kermit droned on and on with his boring songs, and the show was all just a lot of nonsense.  Seeing them all again as an adult, I found my opinion hadn’t changed much, but I did enjoy some aspects of the movie, mainly the scenes involving Adams,Segel, and Jones.  There are enough throwback scenes to conjure up fond memories of my childhood and enough grown-up humor to keep parents entertained.  Both my husband and I found ourselves laughing out loud at a few scenes.

If you loved the Muppets as a kid, you will not be disappointed; all of your favorites are back in action (some more than others).  With only a few mildly questionable lines (a couple of which my children did pick up on, unfortunately), it is a family friendly film, with fun for everyone.  I recommend it as worth a watch (even though it does have the song Rainbow Connection, which my daughter loved and I still despise).
