Snow White and the Huntsman (2012) Rated PG-13

snow white and the huntsmanThe huntsman is sent by the Evil Queen to kill Snow White, but instead he becomes her protector and mentor against the Queen. Starring Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth, Charlize Theron.

This is a dark spin on Grimm’s fairy tale of Snow White. What this film has going for it is excellent special effects and costumes. However, it falls short in its deviation from the traditional story. Originally, fairy tales were written as cautionary stories for children, but even in its darkness, this film fails to  incorporate this central aspect of the fairy tale genre.  Needless to say, this is not the best adaption of Snow White. It’s frustrating when filmmakers try so hard to make a familiar story different, while still trying to please fans of the original. In most cases, as in this one, the heart of the story gets lost, which is what I see as the major flaw in this film.  It is not worth a watch.
