The Shootist (1976) Rated PG

ShootistA dying gunfighter wants to spend his last days with as little pain as possible and to die with dignity. Based on the novel by  Glendon Swarthout. Starring John Wayne, Lauren Bacall, Ron Howard, James Stewart, John Carradine.

This was John Wayne’s last film, and I quite enjoyed it. We follow J.B. Books during his last week, after he is diagnosed with cancer. He wants to die with dignity, but other gunfighters have a different plan. Apart from a little discontinuity regarding whether or not Gillom overheard that Books was dying early on, I have no complaints about this excellent film.  It is one of the best I’ve seen and certainly worth a watch.
