Whiskey Tango Foxtrot (2016) Rated R

Whiskey Tango FoxtrotA journalist chronicles her work in  Afghanistan. Based on the book, The Taliban Shuffle: Strange Days in Afghanistan and Pakistan by  Kim Barker. Starring Tina Fey, Margot Robbie, Martin Freeman, Alfred Molina, Christopher Abbott, Billy Bob Thornton.

This film was not the Tina Fey comedy I expected.  That isn’t to say that there aren’t humorous aspects to the film, but they are overshadowed by the danger and uncertainty of war the journalists are in the midst of.  It is interesting to see Kim Baker change and adapt to her surroundings in the Middle East (not always for the better), and to become discerning in her relationships with others. An unusual mix of dry humor, drama, and the insanity of war, it is a film worth watching.
