Fearing Superman doesn’t have the best intentions, Batman takes him on, while the world tries to figure out what kind of hero it needs. Starring Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Jesse Eisenberg, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Jeremy Irons, Holly Hunter, Gal Gadot.
I battled with myself over this film. I wrestled, as a Superman fan, with the concept of making Superman evil. Although the filmmakers didn’t actually make Superman evil, they still, in my option, have yet to truly understand Superman’s character. Superman above all else, loves the human race, and seeks to protect and preserve them, which means not fighting where they are. I guess this poses a problem for filmmakers who love mass destruction. I have yet to see a great Superman film.
That wasn’t the only problem with this film. If I had gone to this film without seeing any of the previous DC films or knowing the rest of the story, would I have been able to understand this part of the story? No. This movie failed to explain who the characters were and what they were all about. As part of a series of films, I guess it works, but not at all as a stand-alone film.
Plus, they overused both the eerie suspense factor every time the characters were alone and the use of explosives to obliterate everything in sight. This film is a pass.
